Explore Schuylkill’s Craft Beverage Trail offers a unique cultural and historical
experience that complements and benefits craft beer tourism. Unlike any other beverage trail in the nation, Explore Schuylkill’s Craft Beverage Trail includes America’s Oldest Brewery, which is also the nation’s top independent craft brewer. Explore Schuylkill worked with VizVibe, a Pennsylvania-based company that provides custom interactive digital content services to create the app.
Craft beverage tourism is a growing economic driver. Our region is fortunate to have a
wide variety of breweries, wineries, and distilleries with unique tastes and atmospheres
that attract craft aficionados and casual tasters alike. According to the Brewers
Association, Pennsylvania craft breweries ranked 2nd in the nation for craft breweries
and production with more than $5 billion in economic impact. These state rankings
attest to the fact that Schuylkill County’s Yuengling Brewery is the largest craft brewery
in the United States.
Our county’s wineries have an incredible economic impact on the families running them
and our citizens who reap the benefits of the 159 jobs, $5,400,700 in wages, and
$21,064,600 in output. Spread throughout the county from Andreas to Klingerstown and
many points in between and just beyond, our local wineries also serve as tourist
attractions, event spaces, group retreat/meeting venues, and ideal gathering places for
you to celebrate the rich flavors and vibrant colors of our region. In fact, no matter
where you are in Pennsylvania, you are always within an hour’s drive of at least one
winery.
When you pair these craft beverages together with the rise in interest for them, along
with Pennsylvania’s outdoor recreation sector adding $14 billion to the state’s economy
in 2021, and tourism continuing to be one of the fastest growing economies, you get a perfect opportunity to provide a boost for both these individual economies and the
region’s as well. We expect the trail to continue growing throughout our region.
